Who are we?
Self Care is wholly New Zealand owned, with two full time working directors. Since 1985 it has been dedicated to providing quality services and products for professional beauty, spa and well-being practitioners and their clients.

History
Like many a successful company start-up in the eighties, Self Care grew out of a problem, which was turned into an opportunity. In 1985 a corporate take-over battle for Revlon in New York brought problems to its New Zealand Health Care Group division. While Revlon’s well-established cosmetic business was a well recognised brand leader, its health care operations were diverse and less well known.

Revlon’s multi-million dollar New Zealand health care manufacturing and marketing operation, established and managed by Eb Just, was being broken up, as various brands were sold off by the new Revlon owners. A buy-out of the remaining health care business in New Zealand became the foundation Self Care's business. Since the early '90s, Self Care has had no involvement with any of the original products of the buyout.

Philosophy
The personal philosophy of our directors is in tune with a more holistic and natural approach towards well-being, and the group’s endeavours have moved right away from pharmaceutical medicines into newer, more holistic areas.

Our motto might well be "Look better... feel better". Not only do we provide products which consumers can use at home, but we are committed to the development of the professional beauty and spa industry.

We are active supporters of industry associations which help to promote professional standards of excellence, skills, and quality of service.

Today, Self Care is a leading supplier of products and services dedicated to professional spa and beauty therapy in New Zealand.

We are also one of the country’s larger employer of qualified beauty therapists, with well over thirty employed in the company, as therapists, consultants, and support staff.

Customer Service
As you may gather from our statement of philosophy that Self Care strives at all times to provide the best possible service for our customers. Our goal is to provide a complete range of products and services for every aspect of beauty therapy… of the highest quality and value. To this end we offer a choice of three major skin care ranges… Joyce Blok, Decléor, and Pevonia Botanica.

Amongst the features of Self Care’s support for our customers in their business activities are:

Beauty Therapy Sales Consultants – we have a quality team of experienced and well trained beauty therapists to provide product and treatment training, advice, marketing and promotional support, and personal liaison.

Education & Training - introductory product training, advanced product training, new product training, spa equipment training, new staff training, and new treatment training are just some of the educational support functions we provide for each of our major skin care brands. Our resources include a dedicated training room in our head office complex and the More Than Skin day spa facilities.

Marketing Support – Self Care's quality consumer advertising and promotions to support our main brands has often incorporated special offers for clients. These have included chances to win overseas trips, value added offers and promotional treatments.

Conferences & Seminars – Product and treatment seminars are held regularly around the country for each of our main skin care brands. Overseas guest educators quite frequently conduct some of these seminars.

For many years we have also conducted annual Self Care two and three day conferences. These have incorporated personal and business development sessions as well as professional education.

An important component of these has been the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and experiences with fellow therapists from all over New Zealand. They have been held in interesting venues, such as Queenstown, Hamner Springs, Wellington, Taupo, Rotorua, Wairarapa, Auckland and even Sydney.

Convenient Communications – to help our customers place orders, request assistance, and keep informed, we were the first industry supplier to provide a toll-free 0800 phone service. We were also the first to equip all our consultants with cellular phones to make access as easy as possible. We are now introducing laptop computers.

Regular newsletters are sent to each of our major skin care clients, and all beauty therapists are sent newsletters offering special purchasing opportunities for equipment, supplies, and specialised skin and nail care products. Our Self Care Spa & Beauty Communiqué magazine is sent to the whole professional industry quarterly.
